Ask the right
questions
Make sure that
the DJ or band will be using up-to-date equipment
and speakers. Inquire about backup equipment incase
of malfunction. Ask about the size of their music
collection and if the
entertainers
will
be
able to
take requests.
Make sure that they are willing to play all of your
favorite songs and abstain from any you don't
want played, such as
the
"Macarena"
or "YMCA."
Personality is Key
When hiring a professional
entertainer to emcee your reception, keep in mind
that this entertainer will
aid you in arranging the traditional events. They
will be in charge of keeping the party moving
and on schedule. You want to find someone who is
both
personable and professional. Someone who is easy
to work with
and open to your ideas! Anyone can sit and play
songs, but a great DJ or band leader will be able
to read
the crowd to keep your guests dancing all
night long!
Price
Points
It is not uncommon
for musicians to require you to pay anywhere from
a 4-6 hour minimum rate regardless of how long
they actually
work. Also talk about any overtime fees if you end
up using them longer than you had planned.
Check References & Listen to Samples
It is very important
to ask for and check references for DJs and
bands. If they offer you a sample CD or DVD,
make sure that you actually take the time to
listen or watch the !
