Maid/Matron of Honor By

The
maid of honor is usually the bride’s closest
sister, best friend or cousin. If the maid of honor
happens to be married,
she is called the matron of honor. Note: The mother of
the bride should never be the matron of honor; she is
the hostess.
Overall the maid of honor
serves as the bride’s
personal aide and confidant before and during the wedding.
She should also watch over the other bridesmaids and
make sure that they perform their assigned duties before
and during the wedding.
Here is a list of all of the
official duties and responsibilities of the maid of
honor…
Host or co-host
the bridal shower with the help of the other bridesmaids
Organizes
the bachelorette party with the help of the other
bridesmaids
Helps shop for
dresses; both the bride’s and
the bridesmaids’
Pays for her
own wedding attire
Helps bride with
addressing envelopes, recording wedding gifts received,
shopping
and other
important pre-wedding
tasks
Helps the bride
get dressed for the wedding
Helps bride arrange
her train and veil at the altar
Holds the groom’s
ring during the ceremony
Holds the bride’s
bouquet at appropriate points in the ceremony
Sign
the marriage license as a witness, along with the
best man,
after the
ceremony
Stand in receiving
line
Bustles bride’s
gown after ceremony
Play hostess
at the wedding: introduce and mingle with
guests, give directions
to the
bar, bathroom,
gift table,
etc., invite guests to
sign the guest book, and so on…
Makes the second
toast to the bride and groom at
the reception.

Dance
with the best man during the formal
first-dance
sequence
Help the
bride change clothes;
take charge
of bridal
gown after
the reception (typically
by
taking it
to a professional
cleaner)
The
maid of honor
also has many
very important unofficial
roles to play
before and during the
wedding. She
should be a good listener
and always
lend the bride
a sympathetic ear.
She should do
her best to help
trouble shoot
any crises and
help to keep the mood
light for the stressed-out
bride. Remember
laughter is always
the best medicine!
During
the wedding
the maid of honor
should make
sure that the
bride takes a moment
to eat and
drink something; get her a
warm plate of food and
refresh her drinks.
Overall the
maid of honor should be
a loyal and trusted friend
and advisor.
