The Father of the Bride
By Megan Mercer

The father of the bride has many duties on the wedding day…
The bride’s father traditionally acts as the host of the event. Unfortunately for his sake, this typically means that he pays for the majority of the cost of the wedding.

At the ceremony the father of the bride…

  • Accompanies his daughter to the church, walks her down the aisle, “gives her away” and then sits with the mother of the bride
  • Stands next to the mother of the bride in the receiving line

At the reception the father of the bride…

  • Occupies a seat of honor at the parents table
  • Dances with his daughter the bride during the formal first dance sequence
  • Usually stays until the end of the reception to say farewell to guests

Wedding Attire:
The father of the bride (as well as the father of the groom) should wear similar attire to the groomsmen.
